Hello Pennsylvania, we are neighbors{sort of} I am in NJ and am new to bananas too. How did you go about winter protection for the basjoo. I think your a bit cooler from where I live zone7. I have two. I was afraid to put them in the ground. Did you have to cut yours back in the spring? Also have two Siam rubys and a dwarf musa Novak. BTW
welcome to the site. Gone bananas in NJ!!!

Welcome ghman,
I am also in NJ. this is my second year
overwintering my bananas ,my friend gave
them to me .Who also overwintered them one
year. We just dug them up cut the leaves off,
washed the dirt off. And put them in a cool dark basement.
they did great. Was hoping it would bloom this year, but
no luck yet. let me know how you overwinter .
Thanks and good luck. Paula<a href=http://www.bananas.org/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=11902&ppuser=1005><img src=http://www.bananas.org/gallery/watermark.php?file=11902&size=1 border=0></a>

:jalapenonaner:I did nothing special really, just cut them back to about six inches after they got cold and died back, and covered with about three inches of leaves from other trees in my yard, in the spring they came up through the leaves.

Hi Paula, did you cut the trunk back when you overwintered? Pictures look great! My basjoo is in a large pot. It's close to 5ft tall. Not sure what to do with it. Please let me know. Gone Bananas In NJ
