I am so glad to have found this site! I am new today to this website and forum. I did not even know there was such a thing as a winter hardy banana until this year! How cool! A couple that lives about a mile from me have been growing them for about 4 years I just found out and I thought they were wintering them inside. Not so! I got curious and stopped to ask them about it. Their original plant is now a small forest of banana trees!

I purchased mine on clearance for about $7.00 about 4-6 weeks ago and it was about 1 foot tall. What a deal! About three feet tall now and it puts out a new leaf every week it seems and has 3 pups. It is a pretty green and looks healthy. I am learning a lot already and want to be sure that it survives the coming winter here in Michigan so I am counting on all of you to help me make that happen with all your good advice and I have some to share too! I love gardening and this banana is going to be fun to grow!

She's not kidding: the more types you have, the more types you covet. Even crazy 50-foot varieties that have no business in anyone's back yard....

Welcome buzzybee. Any information there is to know about bananas can be found here. Congrats on your purchase. The quest for the knowledge is half the fun at lease it is to me. WARNING make sure you have time to support an addiction. After you learn what some of us do especially those in colder areas to be successful you will know we are addicts. Good luck :goteam:

Thanks to all for the warm welcome! This sounds like a fun place to be. I already have an addiction to plants! When I see one that interests me the hunt is on until I find it and sometimes at any cost! It makes for a fun adventure! 50 ft banana tree? WHO said that??? I would be the talk of the town. As it is I am sure this future banana forest in my front yard will turn some heads!
