Hi guys
First of all I would like to thank everyone on this site for all the help I received. I joined last August and have been "lurking & learning". Of all the gardening sites this one really feels like family. I've finally learned to load some photos (with the help of my son) so in the future I should be able to do it myself. I purchased my first banana last spring from a member of this site, he lives a mile from me and turned me on to this site. Well it looks like my basjoo set out it's flag leaf this week, I can't believe it and I'm sure it wouldn't have happen without the help, confidence & information this site offered. Hopefully I'll keep posting pictures of my new baby.
PS I've posted some pictures in my gallery, I hope!
Thanks
Jim

Well Welcome aboard!! :03:I can't wait to see pics and it's helpful to have another zone challenged member defying the odds. Did you over winter your basjoo outside or bring in?

Just looked at your photo gallery. Jim your yard is so beautiful. I would love to see a list of what you have and how you winter them.

Thanks for the kind words.
The basjoo that's in flower was wintered over using the cage method.
I took some pictures last fall of the cage, I hope to be able to get those pictures up (there on another disk) but it was a monster. When I opened it up this spring no part of the pseudostem went bad. So we started this spring at almost 4 ' of height. Just to clear up one point the pictures that I posted were taken last Sept so the basjoos are bigger now. Hope to get pictures of the flower this week.

Hey Jim, I saw your pics in your gallery, VERY NICE! I'm new to this banana growing addiction too, started last season. I guess the REAL key to having them nice and large is to come out of their winter snooze with a good psuedo stem height. Although mine all faired the winter quite well, all lost some height. And last year they hadn't grown as much as I had hoped for either. Don't get me wrong I think my nanas are awesome and growing very nicely, they just don't have the impressive height your plants do. You did a great job protecting them.

Jim,

I want to thank you also for posting the pictures of how you tucked your nanas in for the winter!!! Picture tutorials are wonderful and going to the trouble to do that is just so nice of you!

You work hard for that beautiful yard.

Thanks,
Deb
