:waving:Thought it might be fun to explain or screen names and where they came from and if they mean anything. Honestly some of them I don't even know how to pronounce. For me, Natedogg was given to me as a nickname about 10-12 years ago when the rappers Natedogg and Warren G came out. For some reason it stuck and people are still calling me it today. The 1026 is my old house address. Something easy to remember.:03:
momoese
07-18-2008, 01:19 PM
Before buying our house we lived in a triplex and our front neighbors had two children, a boy and a girl. The girl used to call me Momo because she couldn't pronounce my name yet, and the boy called my wife who's name is Inge-lise "ees" so I put the two together and changed the spelling a bit to form momoese.

Bananaman88

I picked bananaman just off the top of my head and stuck the 88 on the end because at the time my favorite NASCAR driver was Dale Jarrett and his number was 88. He has since retired. Also, I think Bananaman was already taken so I had to add something to it. It has always bugged me that the "b" isn't capitalized, but I haven't been able to figure out how to change that little detail. Any help with that, Jarred?
These should be fun to read. Thanks for posting. I'm especially interested in hearing about Rmplmnz's screen name!

la·gniappe ( lan-yap)
n. Chiefly Southern Louisiana & Mississippi
1. A small gift presented by a storeowner to a customer with the customer's purchase.
2. An extra or unexpected gift or benefit.
I named my wholesale tropical fish biz "lagniappe" because I always put extra fish in the bags to cover any potential losses .

proletariatcsp

csp - are my initials, and proletariat well. . .
In Marxist theory, the proletariat is that class of society which does not have ownership of the means of production. Proletarians are wage-workers, while some refer to those who receive salaries as the salariat. For Marx, however, wage labor may involve getting a salary rather than a wage per se.
Marxism sees the proletariat and bourgeoisie (merchant class) as occupying conflicting positions, since (for example) factory workers automatically wish wages to be as high as possible, while owners and their proxies wish for wages (costs) to be as low as possible.
According to Marxism, capitalism is a system based on the exploitation of the proletariat by the bourgeoisie (the "capitalists", who own and control the means of production). This exploitation takes place as follows: the workers, who own no means of production of their own, must seek jobs in order to live. They get hired by a capitalist and work for him, producing some sort of goods or services. These goods or services then become the property of the capitalist, who sells them and gets a certain amount of money in exchange. One part of the wealth produced is used to pay the workers' wages, while the other part (surplus value) is split between the capitalist's private takings (profit), and the money used to pay rent, buy supplies and renew the forces of production. Thus the capitalist can earn money (profit) from the work of his employees without actually doing any work, or in excess of his own work. Marxists argue that new wealth is created through work; therefore, if someone gains wealth that he did not work for, then someone else works and does not receive the full wealth created by his work. In other words, that "someone else" is exploited. Thus, Marxists argue that capitalists make a profit by exploiting workers. -wikipedia
P.S. I suppose even communism had its up side? :nanadrink:
damaclese
07-18-2008, 01:56 PM
OK this may sound a bit ostentatious the name was derived from Damocles which at the time i created it was already taking so i changed the spelling but this is were it comes from
"Sword of Damocles"
The Damocles of the anecdote was an excessively flattering courtier in the court of Dionysius II of Syracuse, a fourth century BC tyrant of Syracuse. He exclaimed that, as a great man of power and authority, Dionysius was truly fortunate. Dionysius offered to switch places with him for a day, so he could taste first hand that fortune. In the evening a banquet was held, where Damocles very much enjoyed being waited upon like a king. Only at the end of the meal did he look up and notice a sharpened sword hanging by a single piece of horsehair directly above his head. Immediately, he lost all taste for the fine foods and beautiful boys, and asked leave of the tyrant, saying he no longer wanted to be so fortunate.
Dionysius had successfully conveyed a sense of the constant fear in which the great man lives. The theme is that virtue is sufficient for living a happy life.
And that there can be nothing happy for the person over whom some fear always looms?

Even if you're not a math geek, you can easily understand Hamiltonian Operator !!
Suppose you are measuring the work performed by an operator, using Sir William Hamilton's measurement system. If the operator can get the same work done regardless of what order the required tasks are performed in, then the operator is Hamiltonian.

Mine is actually pretty dumb, and comes from a drunken Tuesday afternoon my freshman year in college. It was a simpler time, when the air was clean, the colors were bright and people were just friendlier. It was 1986.
The big bad bully AT&T was being broken up and there was a small upstart company called MCI causing a stir in St. Louis. They were marketing the hell out of the company in Missouri, and it just so happened that my best friend from the corridor was from there.
So there we were, a couple of idiot 18 year olds, drunk as hell at 3:00 in the afternoon on Tuesday. I look across and ask him, "What the hell is thebes?" He looks at me, with a stupid look on his face (that happened a lot in those days) and wondered what in the world I was talking about. "Thebes, what the hell is thebes? It's right there on your sweatshirt!" I responded. He looked down, pulled the front of his shirt taught to reveal the whole front:
MCI
The Best
Well, this guy wound up being one of my best friends ever (and still is to this day) and because of him, the nickname stuck until I moved to Dayton. I added the 11 because Thebes was taken on almost every board I tried to join (I learned later in college it is also the name of ancient cities in both Egypt and Greece). 11 is my favorite number from when I was a kid. I was always the smallest kid by far on any sports team I'd join. My dad always though the number 1 looked "cute" on my back. I hated it, it was a reminder of how small I was. We compromised on 11. Problem is, when writing it, I never know which 1 to put first!

Lorax comes from Dr. Seuss' book "The Lorax" - I chose it because our philosophies mesh up pretty well. Also, I lifted myself from a land that cuts down its trees with no regard, to one that actively cherishes them.

Cookiecows comes from a breed of cow that I fell in love with. When we moved to Kentucky I drove past a cow everyday that I thought had been born with a one of a kind pattern. A black headed, white bellied, black butted cow that looked like an oreo cookie. To make a long story short I sent my husband to buy that cow as I was afraid it would end up at the stock yard and we found out that it was actually a breed of cow. We couldn't buy her but the farmer sold us a heifer from her that had the same markings. After aquiring some purebreds we were hooked. We now have several registered "Belted Galloways" but that first cow that isn't even purebred will live out her life here with us.

Stumpy is a nickname that I was given when I was on the bike patrol in downtown Nashville. I was walking down the street and someone said I looked like a tree stump walking down the street. I guess due to me being short and stocky. Well the name stuck and the 47 was the number I used in football. Most of my user names have 47 or 4700 in them.
buzzwinder
07-18-2008, 03:01 PM
Buzzwinder comes from an incident in a local bar one night, about one in the morning this guy comes walking in, he had obviously had several beverages that evening already, he ask a friend of mine who was tending behind the bar for a buzzwinder, perplexed by the name of this beverage she came and asked me and a few my of buddies if we knew what was in a buzzwinder, none of us had heard of it and she couldn't find it in her Bartenders friend mix drink book or the owners own rolodex file of special drinks, so totally mystified by the gentlemans request she returned to him and asked what was in a Buzzwinder? He promply got a huge smile on his face and said quite clearly A Budwieser Please. Everyone got a big kick out of it , including the bartender, after that everytime I went into the Bar I aked for a Buzzwinder. I drink Bud Light, and it kinda stuck. :bananas_b

In 1996 when Ultima Online was released, I created an accout, and depending on the server I played on I was either known as Lady Ahava, or Lady Kaliska. Now I play World of Warcraft as you can see on my avatar. A night elf hunter. ^_-. And I tend to use either as a log in name out of habit, and it's just easier for me to remember. I have a great love for pixelcrack (as I call it) and the natural.. (gardening ect) Go figure right?

I use Gabe15 (or some form of it) for as many different online names things as I can so I don't have to remember too much. It started somewhere else, away from this site, and I just wanted to use Gabe, but it was taken everywhere. I think one of the suggested computer generated names was Gabe15, or maybe I just stuck the 15 on since my birthday is March 15th...something along those lines, nothing fancy.

Owned way too many corvettes and back about 1990 I had a young boy and the vette wasn't big enough so I bought a 1987 TURBO Buick Grand National. I soon discovered that with a few mods, there wasn't much on the street that could keep up with it and this was my screen name on the Turbo Buick boards so I use it other places. When I was 6 or 7yrs old, My teacher gave me a packet of snapdragon seeds to plant. I planted them in front of our apartment bldg in the worst looking soil you can imagine! Even had little sticks and rocks around them like a fortress! Guess what?
They grew very beautifully! Neighbors said "Girl you have magic green fingers!"

Great thread, thanks Nate!
MediaHound was a moniker adorned upon myself by a good friend of mine when we were teenagers.
I think it was because I had the biggest music collection at the time out of all of our other friends.
Being into music, having a green thumb, my love of aquariums, and being a collector of many other different things it makes perfect sense x 10... and my online interests that involve "publishing" and "eyeballs" (media in that sense of the word) (such as this website), it goes very hand in hand with.
So, the name fits me in several regards. It wraps up a lot of things that I have interests in and is versatile to be appropriate for just about all of them!
Don't worry, your planting media is safe!

after reading some of these I'm boring. In the 90's I was back packing around europe and then New Zealand. I decided to learn Italian (not in Italy, I waited until I was in New Zealand).
Jump ahead 5 or 6 years and I fell in love, firstly with my lady Sandra (love at first sight does work) and then with the town she lived in - Dicky Beach. Dicky Beach is as close to paradise as I'll ever get so with my dysfunctional Italian it became Paradisi.

:woohoonaner:
I know that :02:
and the reason I do is I recently did a maths unit at university (I do a degree as an external student - via correspondence - just to keep my brain active)

Okay, I didn't think I had much to explain but had to laugh when I saw a couple of other license plates here and then saw Richard described his by-line.
Sometime around 31 or 32 years ago (yikes, I'm old!) California came out with 7 digit license plates and after a friend suggested it, I got HARVEY C. Those plates are now on their 5th vehicle. I use "harveyc" wherever I can, but it's not available in some places. I got real cranky with one company when my online account had be closed due to inactivity and they said it was impossible for me to reactivate it. They said I'd have to join with a new name. I just refused to join! I do use a different ID in a few spots where the name is surprisingly taken already, but I sure wasn't about to use a different name for a stupid reason like that! LOL
My by-line of "been nuts, gone bananas" is related to what my dad and some other farmers say about me. I'm considered an "educated" farmer around here and my dad and other farmers think I've got some odd ideas on how to do things, even though I'm more conventional than I sometimes wish I were. I removed a pear orchard from our farm in 1998 and planted chestnuts, largely because they didn't require pesticides for insect or disease control around here (I do spray weeds, though). Chestnuts are a lot of work, hand harvesting from the ground each day four about three weeks to maintain top quality. A lot of farmers, including my father, think I'm "nuts". When I started hobby growing bananas some of the farmers also heard about that and really thought I was crazy. I agreed, and said I had gone bananas!
I will say that for a while last year I thought my dad was finally coming around when he saw bananas on my California Gold. Then he said "boy, that tree should be stronger next year and produce even more." I broke the news to him and he thought I was really stupid for growing a plant like a banana that would die after fruiting. I then reminded him that corn, which he made a good living of growing for about 55 years or so, dies every year and he has to buy seed again the next year. He still shook his head!

Some people have been talking about their signatures, so I'll explain mine too.
Being a teenager into gardening with a greenhouse and everything required to grow plants all year round indoors, I always used to get asked if I grew marijuana or if I would grow it for someone. I always had to explain that I pretty much just grew bananas, no weed. I told some people that I didn't grow normal hemp, but I did grow Manila help (Musa textilis), not many people get it, but I figure on here maybe some people would.

Some people have been explaining the title under their user name. Mine is Bananaculturist. I figured that was a good natural extension of my profession, which is a horticulturist. Oh so exciting and mysterious, huh? It fits, though, as my bananas now get far more attention than any of my other plants.
I live in southern North carolina hence snc. plus too mahy passwords etc so just try to keep things simple.

My title, Banana Coloured, should be self-evident. The Lorax itself is yellow, and I myself am green. (pun, pun, bad pun...)

Well here is my screen name that I use here.I was working in the Record Biz in the 80's and, after asking my grandmothers neighbor that I needed a job where he worked. He asked me why I wanted a job there so I told him I loved listening to local rock and roll with the bands that are playing at the local club's out here in Southern California and love the music biz.So that is why I wanted to work there because I could get all the music that bands I listened to.I told him so he hired me.Now his business was from New York and all he could remember my name was to call me SOCALROCKER.So the name stuck with me for many years after that because I am still listening to ROCK N ROLL music.

Chironex is the genus name of the cubomedusa Chironex fleckeri (sometimes called box jellyfish) or "Sea Wasp". The Sea Wasp has one of the most deadly toxins known to mankind. I studied it in college and did my some of my pre-med post grad work on the properties of this bad boy's sting, along with the Blue-Ringed Octopus and shark behavioral studies with Dr. Samuel Gruber. (That was until the U of Miami figured out that I was working on post-grad studies before baccalaureate completion. So it was pay-up or quit. Since I couldn't afford to pay, I quit :( Guess I didn't want to be a doctor that bad.) Oh well, there you have it.

Lilith was, for those of you who know your Old Time Religion, the Mother of all Demons. Supposedly Adam's first wife, later the wife of Lucifer after he became a Fallen Angel and was renamed Satan.
Lilith is also supposedly the Mother of all Vampires, who are considered demons by some and separate entities by others.
So that's all I am going to say about Lilith. You can draw your own conclusions about why Lilith is my screen name.
Do I believe I am the mother of a demon?

Well, guess I'll chime in here! I used to work fast food for many years at a seafood restaurant called Captain D's (owned by Shoney's and most are in the SE USA) in Middle Tennessee. I bowled a whole bunch back in the early to mid-1990s, and one of the mechanics in the back who I was friends with named me "Bigfish." There was this stupid commercial on TV back then for Long John Silver's, a competitor of Captain D's, and a character known as "Bigfish." So, even though I tried to explain that Bigfish was a Long John's character, he wouldn't have any of it, lol. I was Bigfish ever since. For some reason, when I was picking out my screen name for this forum I went with "bigdog." Probably because of the Big Dog line of clothing (I'm 6'7"), which I love because their shirts fit me so well. Funny because this is the only forum or any online site with the moniker "bigdog." So there it is.

On topic, pertaining to my screen name, the tomatoes are wonderful, the onions and potatoes are dug, the hops are harvested, peaches, cherries, apricots, and nectarines are sweet memories, pears and apples are ripening nicely and delicious, and I have a couple more weeks on my Liz's late nectarine (she really is late). Oh yes, I can't forget the bananas are plumping well! I am about to prep the gardens for planting my wintercrops (kales, and salad greens, herbs, onion, and garlic) and green manures. I'm also going to haul 2-3 more truckloads of Pete poop for the crop and banana beds. The Microfarm's lifeblood, go Pete!!:0519:
Well - in 1692 at Glencoe, the Campbells who were guests of the McDonalds turned on their hosts and massacred them. Can't be too careful! lol! being a McDonald myself!!
Cassie
Off topic, Glad I'm not a Campbell! Just kidding... I am proud to announce my Clan Webb heritage. My Great Grandmother, Grace Webb married a Fitzgeralds. Her daughter (my maternal Grandmother) being Lea Webb, and she married Brush Sutherland Winans (my maternal Grandfather) son of Sutherland Brush Winans. I have found documents of a Webb marrying into the Bruce family (not too much of a stretch to Brush, but unconfirmed).

If any of y'all can point me toward a good source for information of the Clans of Scotland, I would be grateful.

My name actually comes from 2 different origins and comes in a few different flavors.
THE ALPHA -- Alpha in my name is derrived from '97 when I got into playing an MMORPG called Asheron's Call (god I miss that game!). All the "k00" and "l33t" names were taken and JUST HAD to have one that fits me. And Alpha ibn Omega was born, since I wall always the first person to battle and the last one out. My 'Alpha' has also spawned different varieties depending on who I was dealing with and what type of site or game I was playing.
THE 010 -- back in my teenagerhood when pagers were just taking off and everyone i knew had one. Whenever I would beep my boyz i would just enter in 010 and they knew who it was and where to get back at me.
I *craftfullylyly* grafted the Alpha to the primary rootstock of 010 and my name has enough elements to germinate and blossom into a so far 11 year reign.

Up until September 2007 I lived all around Maryland (at times not far away from Saltydad) and one of my favorite pastimes was attending the great bluegrass festivals held in the Blue Ridge and Appalachian Mountains. Needless to say, one of the activities at your real down home festivals is trying out different types of the local liquors. If possible I would buy up a few quarts and take them home with me, for special occasions. Peach, apple, plum, cherry, and plain old clear were some of the many varieties I collected.
One such special occasion was the Stillwater Family Reunion, held in upstate New York by some good folks in a great band by the name of Railroad Earth. Since it was more intimate (only 150 people) than your average festival and consisting of close friends and families connected with the band, I took along what had become a rather large stash of different types of moonshine.
http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x83/wharfratmd/stuff/festivalsahead.jpg
It was here I met the boys of Greensky Bluegrass, a band for which I still do promotion work on a strictly pro bono basis. I met them on Friday night, told them where my tent was, and said "Help yourself". And they did! We all stayed up until sunrise, with a quite spirited pickin' party around the campfire.
Their set was at 5:00 the next evening, and as they got ready to start playing they apologized for their still quite hungover condition, and then sent a big shout out to "Moonshine Mike, for his most gracious hospitality, and that fine cherry 'shine".
To that point I had made it 49 years without ever getting stuck with a nickname. But after that night I was officially 'Moonshiner'. Kinda like it, too.
Oh, yeah.......

SoBe Musa
09-03-2009, 10:17 PM
Well ,ease to explain ..
SoBe that is where I live ..
South Beach is a neighborhood in the city of Miami Beach, Florida, United States. It is the area south of Indian Creek and encompasses roughly the southernmost 23 blocks of the main barrier island that separates the Atlantic Ocean and Biscayne Bay. This area was the first section of Miami Beach to be developed, starting in the 1910s, thanks to the development efforts of Carl G. Fisher, the Lummus Brothers, John S. Collins, and others. The area has gone through numerous man-made and natural changes over the years, including a booming regional economy, increased tourism, and the 1992 hurricane Andrew, which consequently destroyed much of the area.
note: "An explosion of Bananas grow is well watch and follow by city officials "
Miami Beach ,an incredible city, a city with a life and personality of its own. A city full of bohemian and passionate people ,a perfect place to live free and garden with full of ease..!
http://i815.photobucket.com/albums/zz77/SoBe_Musa/SOUTHBEACH.jpg
and MUSA well we all know:
Musa (pronounced /ˈmjuːzə/)[1] is one of three genera in the family Musaceae; it includes bananas and plantains. There are over 50 species of Musa with a broad variety of uses. The word "banana" came via Portuguese or Spanish from a West African language (possibly Wolof) circa 1597 and has since found its way into most Western languages. The scientific name for the genus is similar to and possibly derived from the Arabic, Persian mawz/mauz (موز) or Turkish (muz) names for the fruit.
Though they grow as high as trees, banana and plantain plants are not woody and their apparent "stem" is just the bases of the huge leaf stalks. Thus they are technically gigantic herbs.
Musa species are used as food plants by the larvae of some Lepidoptera species including Giant Leopard Moth and other Hypercompe species including H. albescens (only recorded on Musa), H. eridanus and H. icasia.

I'm glad you pointed that out Americans love to mess with the sex of names for example all the fallowing are boys names but if you ask the average person they would think you nuts thees are all the boys spellings

Julie
Aaron
Cary
Gene
Lee
Leslie
Paddy
Robin
Reese
Tyler
Terry
Tony
thees are mostly girls names but are used as boy names too
Angel

Emerson
Harley

London
Peyton
Shannon
Riley
Skylar
Thees are but a few examples so next time you read a name don't assume you know the sex of the individual that posses it you mite be wrong
Sorry this is a bit of a pet peav for me many people reticule thees individuals its not there fault and almost all of thees names are ancient in origin and what a extraordinary gift to give your child but the rich traditions of naming them with such prestigious and historic name many of which have belonged to some vary famous people

Thanks i did not mean my list to be comprehensive thees are only English examples I just wanted to give a flavor of what i was talking about but thank you for that example
I think one of the main reasons i feel so strongly about names is that theirs been for the last couple of decades in the US this trend to name children with well some pretty shockingly poorly thought out name there have been many studies on how names affect children and I'm sure if we all thought about it you would know I'm right people tend to prejudge you based on your name so if you go for silly non traditional names people do not take you seriously at least anisuly I'm not saying its going to wreck any ones life but People have to live there hold life with a name so if on your labor bed you look over at the Kleenex box and think hey thats a good name think again no offense to any one with a non traditional name I'm sure in some ways a unique name could be a calling card for you but i for one and vary happy that my Mother had enough presence of mind to Pick Paul for me its traditional dating back over 10,000 years comes from the Hebrew Saul which means Small or humble and although in my age its not that rare its a vary rare name buy todays standards leas that 1% of the worlds population has the name Paul so i feel unique and special so theres an example of how a name can affect your self perception so you see it sounds trivial but is any thing but its a life altering and profound thing in the life of a child
PS now that i Have wrecked this thread you can all go back to what you were talking about My job here is done! lol

I could tell by your writing stile that you were a guy but your name is a good example of a name both male and female but an even better example of a professional name thees are names that reflect an individuals profession not a common practice now but in the old English as well most European traditions one would often take that type of name as a no questions asked calling card as the there chosen line of work its a good idea how even i for one would not like to be called Barista sounds to much like Claresta to me LOL but i guess if I were living in Marry Old england i would be the Go to guy for coffee LOL if they had coffee back then which they didn't so id starve right!
the only person that i was ever really confused as to whether they were a guy which i thought they were was Lorax her stile is rather male in nature
I hope she doesn't get offended by that!
Paul, I would be more afraid of calling Lorax a "girl" :ha: ! But then we've already heard her reaction to "Aunt Beth", haven't we Ante :).

Nah, Eric. I know what Pauly's getting at so no offence given nor taken! Then again, ask Scot why he calls me Ben (which is oddly enough roughly how ''Beth'' is often pronounced down here - I've started going by Elizabeth because they have an easier time with it....)
Besides which, if any of you ever meet me in person, you'll likely get the same impression that Pauly gets from my writing. I am hardly a fragile flower of femininity.

Funny, Ante stays for Croatian variant of Antony and most peoples thinks its womens name. We have many examples in my area, Ante (Antony), Mate (Mathew), Joze (John), etc. are all traditional man names.
:woohoonaner:
Ante = Anton (Anthony)
Mate = Matej (Martin)
Joze = Jožo (Joseph)
All of them Jewish, except for Ante, nice Slavic one. Mine is for example Latin, for those, who know it.
Although it's difficult to translate names, especially ours, since more than 3/4 of them don't have any equivalent in English. Only the Hebrew and Greek based ones. Anythig that has long version ending with -slav, -mir, -e... is likely to be Slavic in origina. Female names such as -ica, -na, -ana, -slava, -mira.
Like Croatian Zora (Zorica?), Ivana (Ivica?)...
John would be in Croatian something like Jani (do you have such in Croatia?), here it is Jano (Ján), Johann auf Deutch, Giovanni in Italian, Jean in French etc...
Funny names are also Hildegarede and Gertrude. I haven't looked at this from this point of view, everytime I introduce myself, even to foreigners, it's not translated. Let's have them their tongues twisted a bit. :bananas_b
But for a lack of a better name we could call you Tony from warm and sunny Croatia. :ha:
Besides which, if any of you ever meet me in person, you'll likely get the same impression that Pauly gets from my writing. I am hardly a fragile flower of femininity.
:D Really?
Besides which, if any of you ever meet me in person, you'll likely get the same impression that Pauly gets from my writing. I am hardly a fragile flower of femininity.
Fragile flower of femininity  !? Very well put! If I ever needed a hunting partner, I'd pick Beth over most any guy I know :) ! Her or an Amazonian female warrior.... Okay, same thing :) !

Sounded better than "Fish Head".
I grew up on the Gulf Coast and still live here. The only time I spent away was 3 years in Japan and 4 years at Mississippi State. That was enough winter for me, especially Japan. I lived way out in the country and it was like glorified camping. The first winter was so bad I could walk across the koi pond, I knew it was going to be a long, cold winter! My first and ONLY experience of living with snow and ice. No thanks, never again. We may see frost and freezes, but you can usually count on 60 - 70 degrees a few days later.
Also, I walk sideways and you may get pinched. Just kidding about the first part.

first name, first 3 letters of last name, and 24. Started using 24 for things since working at a small grocery store called Deluca's Back Bay Market in Boston in 1990. My register login was 2424 so I've used 24 in logins, passwords, emails, and screen names, especially when there is more than 1 robguz.

I've really been into zen garden elements lately. Jodo is a zen garden term meaning "pure land". I'm thinking about calling my new business Jodo Gardens.

In August 2000 I found an old sweet dog near my house and never found the owner, I had just put down my first dog a few months earlier and that was the hardest thing I ever had to do. I named my new dog Hana after the town in Maui where I have been a few times, she was as sweet and calm as that heavenly place where everything grows big and fast. Eventually her nickname became Hanabanana and when I started growing nanners last year that was my first thought. I am not rich by any stretch but I learned how to do Hawaii on the cheap and offer advice to anyone planning to visit there. I had friends there years ago and was shown many places most tourists never see. Drop me a PM if you want any tips.

I use the name of the creek that forms a boundary with my property that extends to the middle of the creek on which someone by that name of Barnett constructed a mill in about 1820. Barnett is a common name in locally nearby border regions of Alabama. I while living in NW Florida have more in common with Mobile and Biloxi than I do with Miami or Tallahassee. Although I do visit Crawfordville, FL which is a little south of Tallahassee about once a year to purchase fruit trees from Just Fruits and Exotics that are ideal for my zone 8b here in NWFL.

Perfect spot to watch local fireworks (from a close park, and neighborhood) on the 4th.
And my best friend, that encourages me the most! He mostly stays on the ground and watches me fly; but he can take off like a bullet tooo!

I worked for Frito Lay for 18 years and no matter how long they knew you they still called you chipboy even being 30 |+ years older than most so that was my choice, after all everyone called me that. for a lack of creativeness I also took my age at the time and that is it. Chipboy44....

It appears no one has done this in quite some time, but I have no life, so why not? My name is John Quackenbush, and my Uncle calls me Jack Quack because it rhymes (still don't understand how Jack is a nickname for John... before my time I guess). I was born in 1978. Ta-Da! *crickets*

Crickets.............welcome to the hood.....
My name is not crickets if that's what you were thinking. (If I mistook that ignore this rambling) I was implying that my explanation was less than magical, even with the "ta-da!" Hence only the sound of crickets.

It's my ex-wife's cat's name. I use it on most sites I'm a member of. The Media likes to claim it's the character from one of my books, but that character's name (Snark) was taken from the cat as well.
For the origin of the name, look up the book, "The Hunting of the Snark." If you're a southern AZ desert dweller, it'll also answer your question as to where spiny Boojum gets it's name.
