Here is the other musa basjoo that I planted the same time as the other. However, this one was previously 12 inches tall and now it's down to 3 inches. I planted them June 25. Should I dig it up? Is this still alive?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Neil

Assuming that the soil the plant is in has good drainage, I would withhold watering as often. It looks like your soil is pretty wet. (maybe, it's just the timing of the picture taking). Or maybe your soil is just naturally wet in this area compared to the other one.

Starting from the outermost, gently peel out the driedpseudostem to the point where it is green. When you get to the middlemost stem/leaf coil, if that is green then you probably do not have a problem, it may be just that the plant is still in the process of developing roots. If it's black, (- Pray! LOL) cultivate the area around the plant to aerate the soil and let some of the moisture evaporate. Withhold watering until the top inch of the soil is dry.

Yep, I took the picture after the watering. And yes, the soil is healthy and has good drainage. I will cut move the soaker hose away from it.

I'll keep you posted.

Thanks again! :)

Here it is. I removed the dried pseudostem. The bottom is pale green. Also, I noticed that I put too much mulch. Should I remove some of the mulch?

You don't have to remove the mulch. Just don't water as often as you have been. Let the top of the soil dry out before watering again, until the plant is well established. The plant appears to be okay. Put the soil back around it, but do not water again until the top 1-inch of the soil is relatively dry.

Also, now that you've exposed the tender p-stem, put some kind of shade over the plant to prevent exposing it to direct sunlight. You don't want it to be sunburned.

Today, I moved this weak/naked basjoo close to the my healthy basjoo. I noticed that the area where it was before was getting a lot of water. However, when I was planting another plant, I accidetally hit this poor basjoo with my shovel. That means, the only pseudostem that is left is from the ground level. :(

Will it still live?
