I received a bunch of Musa Banksii seeds a few months ago and they have done nothing. I then got some advise from my Canadian friend in Holland about high temps and max humidity , so I more or less filled the Greenhouse with water and turned it into a Steam Bath. It's a few days later and I already have two seedlings up with the hope of many more. The seeds are wold sourced from Queensland Australia so they will be the McCoy.

Congrats on your germination success, Steve. Did you leave your "steam bath" on 24/7, or alternate on and off? Whichever you did must have done the trick. How many seeds do you have in there? Keep us posted to your results.

Randy, I guess they were a little cooler at night but not much. I nned to get some more Musa seed and give them a go in the Greenhouse. I never have much success with Musa seeds , I hope that's about to change.

How are the young sprouts doing Frank? I have some indoors in the bedroom on the window sill that are about 5" tall and some smaller ones in the wet prop that will soon need potting on.
I would think your must be romping away now.

I just repotted all of them last weekend, actually. I had 72 of them sprout, and now "only" have 45 left. Lost a bunch of them to damping off, due to non-sterile soil and some cool weather. The survivors then got attacked by something else that was chewing the leaves, and are now presently being attacked by aphids and spider mites. They are only about 5-6 inches tall! They are otherwise pretty healthy and growing well though. They are at the size where they should start taking off very soon, and are in a nice, warm greenhouse with full sun almost all day. I've been hitting them with insecticidal soap on a regular basis. You just have to stay after the mites, or they will be everywhere in no time.

72 is a good percentage Frank. I only had about 30 seeds and I have around 14 plants now after some rotted off. Funny enough mine never germinated until I moved them into my wet prop that has around 10mm of water in it. They were in an enclosed tub in pure perlite. I check every day to see if any more have germinated but nothing now for a month or so.
I half expected you to post a picture with yours fruiting :ha::ha:
Tog , it would make my day to get a variegated one of these.

Tog , it would make my day to get a variegated one of these.
I am studying a few ways to induce variegation in TC. (No, not with colchicine, either)
If you ever have a spare corm, or a seedling to grow out, I will try to create some stable variegated plants out of it. The research that I read showed an amazingly high percentage of variegates using this method - AND - they remained true to type in subsequent generations!!!
PM me if you are interested.
