Daen, I've got two that are in there first year and are about 2'. There doesn't seem to be many growing this one, every one wants the Maurellii. Actually I almost never hear anyone talk about them. I personally like the all green foliage and can't wait for my red rib to show. Lookin good!-Nate:woohoonaner:

I bought one yesterday. I just posted pictures. It was in bad need of help.
I repotted it into a larger pot and trimmed it up a bit. Pot it was growing in was so small that the pstem had completely filled it. It looks so healthy now.
I felt really good to bring it home and care for it.
I really have gone bananas in NJ
Good luck with yours! :goteam:

its almost unbelievable to see how they react on sunny days.
we had last week low temrpeatures of 65-70 F with lots of rain and clouds, very less growth.
Yesterday it was sunny with almost 75 F and now they are again growing great!

I think thats the problem for you; too hot and too dry. i think your humidty is too low.
they are growing great here with temperatures between the 73-90 degrees and they love sun here, because the humidity is high.
can you post a pic of yours?

Yes I will post a picture. To be honest I was waiting to see if they would grow in fuller thereby creating a better picture for you to look at I'm some what embarrassed at their scrawny size. Remember these little guys only germinated in may. So they are very young. Their only just now getting their first or second matured leafs

I am in the Phoenix area of AZ. Most of my bananas get no shade ever and we reach over 120f on occasion with constant sun. I think the bananas can take the sun as long as you water the heck out of them. At least the varieties I have can. I am growing quite a few different species, its the winter with desert night time temps that are concerning me, as all of mine are permanently in ground. No potted plants. Although having made the above statement I have never grown any bananas from seed. Only corms, pups, and tissue cultures that I have recieved through the mail. I am way too impatient to do the seed thing.

With Ensete species, you don't have to wait very long for a big plant. This Ensete superbum was sprouted in February.

Grate looking Ensete Bigdog not a speck of brown any were on it from what i can see keep up the good work i have to say that my EV don't grow all that fast but I'm probably not doing something right i haven't feed them much as the first time i did they kinda got brown on the edges and the fertilizer was only at ¼ strength i did just recently give them another dos and they have responded some. i have been telling my self that they are growing slowly because there so young! self delusion is one of my best tactics LOL

Well, in my experience, when you get them in the ground with good soil, and lots of water, they really take off. Pots really limit their roots, and hence their topgrowth also. I have some two year old Ensete ventricosum in pots that are still about the size of yours.

I have some two year old Ensete ventricosum in pots that are still about the size of yours.soil is a big problem here if i want to grow any thing i have to dig out all the dirt to the largest diameter that the plant will require at maturity that makes a big hole for Bananas the soil here is highly contaminated with toxic levels of borax Cati can tolerate it but not much ells if we water every day you can wash some of it out but you know where that gets you! so replacing the dirt is the only way to get plants to grow also the soil here in my yard is mostly hard packed coble sand iv been slowly getting rid of it i would have replaced it all except theres no place to put the old dirt and no one wants my kind of soil and you cant put it in the trash they wont take it so were to go with it is a problem but I'm working hard on coming up with a solution. on the bright side i almost never have to weed!!! lol
