Banana growers,

I have a clump of musa basjoos that I planted last spring. They look extremely healthy, and I fertilize them all season long. Towards the end of last summer, they developed some kind of deficiency or disease. The lower leaves on the bananas started turning black. It first started with black spots and those spots would develop and spread more to engulf the entire leaf. I can't figure out what it is and the cure. Can anyone identify this? It's starting to come back slowly now. Thanks in advance.

Austin

To me it looks as a bit too much fertilizer..., but wait on more expert opinions.

Thanks for the reply. I did fertilize them a lot. Over the past couple weeks, it appears like this problem is coming back. Gabe, can you help me on this one? Any thoughts as to what this is?

It may be too much fertilizer. I won't fertilize for a while and see if the condition disappears.

just hope it's not a fungus or something like Black Sigatoka. Does anyone know how widespread Black Sigatoka is here in the U.S.?
