I think one of my bananas is starting to bloom. this would be my first bloom. I'm not really sure what type banana this is as it was given to me by a friend 3 years ago when it was a pup so any id help would be appreciated.

Thanks everyone I can't wait to see what happens next, its the first thing I check each morning!! My wife and I travel to the Caribbean a couple times a year so my bananas bring back those memories, anybody have any idea what type banana this is? I recently added some bloods, a ice cream and siam ruby.

Hmmm! can't help you there - very tall and skinny with small leaves - not orinoco although green enough! Nice plants though!

Cassie it usually has big leaves and was not so skinny until overwintered in my crawlspace since I replanted it this spring it seems to be putting all its energy into blooming. The other large plants are pups that came from this nanner.

Well - my experience of different varieties is limited by what we have here - but it does have something of the look of an orinoco about it. Congrats anyway and get the cross-bracing out!! Those nanas get heavy!!

Post a picture when the fruit gets some size to it and it will be easier to ID.
