Last year, we had a an early and strong snow around 3rd week of October. Is it ok to cut my banana tree to the ground early October? On October, it will be 4 months old if it lives. It looks so pathetic right now. :(

why dont you let it freeze down, naturally ?
or protect the stem?

I'll do that then. It's my first time to grow these bananas. :)

Let it go naturally then clean up the debris and mound up some winter protection (wood chip, pine straw) to keep the deep freeze from going wild. You will have great success. Red

If you have hard frosts/freezes, you'll want to protect the corm from freezing, or cold wet soil. Let the soil start to dry out about a month before your first frost date and do like others on this site and make a cage with leaves in it and a waterproof wrapping.

Basjoo will come thru the winter better. The other bananas, especially the edibles are more cold sensitive.

Good luck!!
