Hello everyone, first post :08:

Has anyone ever bought a banana plant from https://www.fast-growing-trees.com/ before?

I was looking into buying a blue java tree from them, which is labeled as "blue java," but I don't want to end up getting a namwah like I already have.

The blue java:

Thanks!

I haven't heard of them before. They are in South Carolina. ... Looking at their BJ listing and the statement under 'pollination info' is pure BS. So they are just trying to push their sells. ... Most of these sellers do not know their Ice Cream or Blue Java is not the real thing. You need to know from where they sourced their plant.

From what their sells price is, you can buy from a forum member. Try PM'ing Tytaylor77 (http://www.bananas.org/member-tytaylor77.html) and sddarkman619 (http://www.bananas.org/member-sddarkman619.html) Let them know you are interested in a real BJ pup with a good size corm not a TC (or Agristarts TC) in a 4" pot. ... Ty may take a few days to answer.

Ive purchased quite a few plants from them, but never bananas..I was always happy with their product, shipping and service. However, I would take the advice given and buy from a dedicated banana seller, preferably a forum member,

I would make a verified purchase from a forum member..

Then we can tell the forum how great the sale was..

Thanks for the help everyone!

I just decided to buy it from fast growing trees, and I’ll see once it’s delivered. Even if it’s not a true blue java, it can’t hurt to have another plant!

I may buy from another forum member in the future. :woohoonaner:

Keep us posted and ask for their banana growing instructions.

Sure thing, I'll update the thread once it arrives.

For their banana growing instructions, from https://www.fast-growing-trees.com/products/ice-cream-banana-tree

"Planting & Care
Note: Banana leaves are huge and can sometimes get crinkled in shipping. Simply remove any damaged or worn leaves to stimulate the growth of new leaves. Use them to wrap meat for your next barbecue. During the growing season you will see fresh new leaves appear every few days.

1. Planting: Ice Cream Bananas can tolerate partial shade, but need at least six hours of sunlight a day. Banana Trees don’t like extreme heat, so afternoon shade will be more beneficial for your tree than morning shade. Avoid areas that receive high winds. If you keep it indoors, place your banana tree by a large sunny window.

Once you’ve scouted your planting location, dig a hole that’s twice as wide as the pot and just as deep. Place your tree in the hole, and make sure that it’s level with the surrounding ground and that it’s standing straight up. Gently back fill the hole, tamping down to prevent air pockets and give your tree a long, slow drink of water. Finally, mulch the planting site to conserve water moisture and keep grass and weeds away from the tree.

2. Watering: Keep your soil moist, but not oversaturated. Water your tree every 2 to 3 days during the summer, and every few weeks in the winter, depending on your climate. Warmer areas that are more prone to drought will require water more frequently. If your tree is in a shady area, it will most likely require less water.

But if you're not sure when to water your tree, simply check the soil about 2 inches down - if the soil is dry here, it's time to water.

3. Fertilizing: Give your tree a well-balanced organic fertilizer once a month during the growing season. Fertilizer will have a recommended dose for the size of your tree on the back of the package. We recommend giving your tree half of that dose for best results.

4. Pruning: Remove any damaged or broken leaves that hang downwards. After your tree produces fruit, trim it back to about 30 inches tall, and let the stem dry out for a week or two. Once the stem has dried, remove it. This will allow new banana tree stalks to grow."

I have not bought from fast growing trees based on the fact that their technical info and other claims for what I have looked at are BS or ludicrous.

Namwa's pup like crazy with proper resources so no sense in taking a chance on another one. I get three pups per plant every couple weeks during the grow season. I've received a couple plants from Ty (Patupi and Indian Hill) and both are doing fine. Those big nurseries just blindly grab a plant from the TC tray and send them out!

Their ice cream is a tall Nam Wah and not a blue java. I bought one from them about a year ago and flowered about a month ago and can 100% confirm this. I tried to post a 3 star review to their site but it was never published. I can say I have bought other plants from them and am happy with the health/quality of the plants but kind of wish it was a Blue Java as I already have a dwarf Nam Wah in the garden.

Im not sure ANY of the big growers sell a true Blue Java.. best to try to get one from a member on here, or at least a seller that is reputable in bananas.
My understanding is that many prefer the taste of a namwah over the Blue Java anyway, but you should still get what you pay for!

Their growing instructions is solid for banana plants taller than 30" and mirrors those given by other forum members & myself. .... But if their plants are TC's in 2", 4" or 6" pots & only about 6" to 14" tall, then the instructions are not sufficient.

Ouch . . .

Well I guess I will enjoy namwah #4.

I’ll look for an actual blue java from a forum member in the future.

Thanks for the advice everyone! :03:

Well thanks for confirming. Beautiful tree by the way.

Hopefully I win the lottery and get an actual blue java from them, but I’m not counting on it.

that's because they sell out very fast. so I don't bother listing them anymore.

PLUS they are NOT tissue cultured so it's not like I have 72 all at once in a tray.
I have 1-4 every few months.

If you look at the listing page itself you can get on a waiting list for them.
However people on here get faster preference than the "waiting list".
Which is why you have been talking to me personally.
I have about 6 BJs right now, only 2 are ready to go.
2 more will be ready soon.
I've sent you photos of the 2 I have that are ready.

Thanks... I haven't received anything as of yet... I'll trust your judgement, or, you can simply flip a coin to decide which one to send...

Just let me know how to get you the money...

Thanks again...
