Greetings! I am a recent transplant to FL and an avid gardener. I have spent a lot of time in western Central Africa (Cameroon, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea), and I would love to learn how to grow plantains the same as, or similar to, the ones I grew to love there. I have just started my research into growing plantains, but I have to admit I find a lot of the information online very confusing or non-specific. If anyone has any guidance or recommendations for how to get started, I would love to hear from you! Randall

P.S. I am also a lifelong beer brewer. During my last trip to Central Africa, I began experimenting with using plantains as a brewing adjunct. If anyone happens to have interests along those lines, please let me know!

Welcome! I don't currently grow plantains, but there are folks on here that do for sure! There are a few commercial growers here that you will see from time to time, and im sure they have info relative to your interest. I am a lifelong beer DRINKER, and while I haven't brewed my first batch, im moving that direction as many of the beers I like are $20 a six or 4 pack.. That in itself is pushing me towards brewing! I do a lot of fermenting, hot sauces, pickles, sourdough etc.. so beer seems like it would be something I would enjoy.. again, welcome!

what did you have there?
I have some Matoke and I have Dwarf Puerto Rican plantains but they aren't ready yet, they will be in about 1 week.
