Hello All,
I was doing some general research and came across the term “Ae Ae”, I’m not sure what it means but I imagine it’s just a variety of banana. At first I thought it referred to Royal Hawaiian but I am also seeing Florida Ae Ae, so now I am a bit confused. Okay, so while in the middle of typing this I looked up Ae Ae and I guess it refers to the plant being variegated. So then I suppose you could have different varieties from different locations referred to as Ae Ae. My question is, what are the different varieties of bananas that people refer to as Ae Ae? Apologies for the scattered nature of this question, I’m fairly new to this stuff.

As far I am concerned, Ae Ae is Ae Ae. Ae Ae is also called "Manini". There is also a variety called "Florida variegated ' Not sure if there are any more. Oh, variegated dwarf namwa, musa tanee.... Ect.

The Ae'Ae' is the name of a specific variegated banana. From my understanding it's a mutation of the 'Maoli' - a Hawaiian banana.
It's a beautiful plant and pretty rare so they command pretty high prices. It's also supposed to be one of the harder plants to care for and they are less cold tolerant than other varieties.
I personally have the Variegated Florida which is similar in looks, it's also easier to find than the Ae'Ae' which makes them a bit cheaper - but still expensive compared to regular banana.
I'm still learning a lot and no expert by any means, there are people on here with a ton of knowledge on these varieties so maybe they can chime in.

Thank you Both for the reply!
Okay, I think I’m beginning to understand. What is referred to Ae Ae is a specific variety of variegated banana plant which is also known as Hawaiian Royal variegated. Florida variegated and Thai variegated are also variegated banana plants. Thanks for the explanation!
Of those three listed which would be the easiest? From my research it seems Thai variegated is a pretty easy and cold hardy plant. I’m guessing Florida variegated is next easiest and Ae Ae is hardest.
