This is my little piece of heaven, 2020 is off to the races! everyone is healthy, spoiled , fertilized and well taken care of. Have 3 flowering so far and i suspect 6 more varieties to soon follow. going to be a great year for my passion!! Just to think these are only some of the banana beds, might be room for more, what do you all think???!!

happy growing all,

Darla

Thank God I have them on timed sprinkers, don't know how I would keep up with it otherwise. I will add some more fruit fuel though. Got to keep them happy.

Happy growing,
Darla

I am afraid Ensete is still in a pot and was over wintered in the green house and still quite small, she is the only one I could bring up from seed last summer. I am watching her closely and can't wait till she is big enough to put into the ground.
I hope yours pick up speed.

Happy growing

Thank you, it has taken several years to get it to this point. Now with covid 19 the garden gets even more attention, lol. Working from home.

Happy growing

You know those blooming nana plants wont be coming back net year. So keep at least 2 pups that comes up per each one until next spring. ... I would keep them all. I hate needless killing, Banana rescue ... I don't see any in the above pics, so you must be removing them.

:) I wish they did Edwmax, as much as I would love to have huge Matt's of all varieties I just can't. I would not be able to walk threw the garden. I also take 1 pup for all of them and pot them up and over winter in greenhouse just incase i loose the mat. How I've been doing it is I leave 1 or 2 replacement pups and I give away or sell the rest. .. That allows me room to still move around in the garden. I would never throw away any plant as I work to hard on growing them. The dwarf Brazillian that is fruiting now was a pup that was pretty good size at the end of 19, mom fruited in the winter, you know the story lost it all. When I unwrapped them in April I cut down iholena and Dwarf Brazillian due to fruit that wasn't mature enough before freezes hit.. its going to be a great year for me as I was out in the garden this morning it looks like I have a possible flag on Pitago, excited about that one,, so a couple days will tell.

Enjoy and have a great day!
Happy growing to all,
Darla

Leaving 2 pups on the mother helps to grow the corm. Late next spring you can then remove one if both survived the winter. Pups more than the 2 (& there should be) use those as backups in the greenhouse. The bigger the corm more likely for it to survive hard freezes and the faster the attached pup will grow the following year.

I've had an old mat, the corm was about 14"-16" wide and about 24" long (18 years old +/-). I've seen this mother corm with 3 or 4 fruiting pstems and a number of pups. This mat was kilted by the Utility Company weed spraying crews in 2016.

Just a suggestion ....

You know I appreciate all the Max suggestions, you guys are the experts, all my knowledge has come from you guys.
I Rember the story about the utility company, I wanted to cry for you, so sad. I am glad you bounced back.

Happy growing,
