Hey all!

I have a dwarf Cavendish in a container that comes inside for the winter months. When is it safe for him to go outside? We've had a while spring here in Chicago, with temperatures fluctuating 40 degrees in the span of a couple of hours. It's 70º one day and 35º the next, so it's been inside longer than I had planned. Will a few hours at night below 50º hurt the plant or is it okay? I don't mind it inside, but it's not getting the sunlight or natural rain it could be getting outdoors.

I'd say when the temp are solid for 55 deg/60 deg min night time temps. Look at you long range forecast for any notice of sudden temp drops.

We just dropped down to 40f and I have pots of Musa acuminata that did fine.

Last spring I threw a couple of pups in my compost pile and by the end of the summer they were over four feet tall! They also survived the low 40's.

If it's not windy and the low temp stays in the forties, I think dwarf cavendish can handle it.
