Hey guys I’m in the Uk and my bananas Musa basjoo have just come out of winter had them for 6 years and I think my oldest is glowing has a large bulge coming out definitely not a leaf and is flower shaped
So my question is will it produce leafs too when flowering as it has no leafs with just coming out of winter
Thanks guys

If that is a flower bud the answer is No. Leafing is done.

Not acquainted with Basjoo specifically, but normally bananas cease producing new leaves when they flower.

Most of the energy/nutrients needed is already stored in the plant. Uptake from the roots is greatly reduced after shooting (flowering). The bigger problem is the lack of leaves which reduces the sap circulation because of the reduced water transpiration. The bunch has the flag leaf and the fingers are green, so some photostat of the chlorophyll will take place. ... the bunch is not going to be big but some of the finger should mature. ... Again foliar spraying the bunch will help to feed needed nutrients and increase finger size.
good luck
