Hello all. This is my first post, although I have been a member for several years. I have enjoyed reading many, many of your posts. I have a question concerning a Super Dwarf Cavendish plant I have. I live in zone 8b, and the plant in question dies down after first frost, is mulched, and comes back out in our spring. My question concerns the new pups as they come up. I would like to propagate some of them to keep in pots in case we have a really cold winter, and the mother plant dies. As there is initially no mother plant to remove from, at what point can I safely dig up one of the pups. None of the pups seem to be sword pups, as all emerging leaves seem pretty broad. The three Pups that have come up so far are currently about 2 inches tall, and are about 10 inches apart. The base of the clump was about 2.5 feet in diameter last fall.

Thanks in advance for any responses :)

Shy huh .... you need to speak up more often. ... I'd say welcome to the Bunch, but you've been here for 10 + years. ... Oh hell... Welcome to the Bunch. Glad you are joining in now.

I dig mine at many different sizes but I'd wait till there like 6" with no mom there it should be super easy, just dig down with your finger till you find where they meet than cut as far towards the main plant as you can. It won't hurt it.
Water suckers are super easy to get compared to the swords, they produce as good as the others. Never had a problem, I don't worry about that when planting. Maybe if I did commercially I might do it different? I grow most of mine in pots.
