My basjoo will not grow over 5-6ft. This could be climate related or who knows what. Has anyone seen this before? I have five matts w three of them blooming now(overwinter blooms) They were all started from original plant. I would really like big basjoos as many winters they never die back.

Just curious...... Why don't you grow edible varieties? With a little extra care you could probably grow say, raja puri or namwa or something. Like simplybananas1 if you want to look it up. :birthdaynana:

I bought a basjoo off Amazon (i think) and I had that exact issue. My basjoo plants never got taller than 6' pstems and sometimes would flower in late fall. I fertilized and watered but they always hit this terminal height.
I was able to get a pup from a friend's basjoo mat (also zone 6) and their plants get to 12' tall each year. Hopefully I can hit that this year, my corm is now decent size and made it through winter ok.

Much has to do on how the plant is sited in its growing area.

My friend does nothing and gets better results than me. I have better draining soil, rain water, and fertilizer but I couldn't match the growth. I think there must be a smaller type.....
