basjoo is easier, grows with lower temperatures.
sikkemensis is a bit more difficlt in winter, with some protection its good possible (or plant it next to a south facing wall) , needs higher temperatures to grow but when it grows, it really grows fast!
I think they will be both the same height when mature.

with good care they grow very fast.
e.g if you buy a one metre basjoo in march, plant him in full sun on a warm spot and give it very much water and fertilize, it can grow to 2,5, maybe 3 metres in one season.

Definately basjoo, they are cheap, readily available and practically indestructible. I had one last year that gave me 6 pups. This year all 6 pups are adult and have given me 6 more pups each. By my calculations next year i will need a bigger garden :D

Your "new shoots" (pups) are turning brown? Shouldent be doing that. How big are the pups getting before going brown?
