I believe Going Bananas in Homestead, FL has them... Welcome to Going Bananas of Homestead, Florida! (http://www.going-bananas.com)
However, I don't think they are shipping anymore as of January 2020.

Highly recommend stopping by if you can (call first) I always learn something new from Don when I visit. I've picked up most of my varieties there but only live 2 hrs. away. Hope this helps!

:)

This plant requires warmth and ample light coverage over the winter months.
Same for the summer months.
This plant wants sun and warmth.
The plant is awesome though...but once it gets larger it is a more challenging plant.

There are other ornamental plants more tolerant to abuse which have interesting foiliage for your zone.
Check out bordelon or tanee

Hi Cincinnana,

Thank you for the response and suggestions. Sorry I responded late--life got busy and I figured that this thread was dead. I simply hadn't checked back in a while.

Tropicals actually do very well in my apartment in the winter because I keep it quite warm! (78f! Yup I don't like to accept that it's winter.) Plus I use a full spectrum light for myself. Spoiled plants get to share it too ;)

I've had several blooming tropicals that are supposed to do poor in winter months continue to grow and bloom for me. I don't do anything special (fertilize or anything) They just thrive happily I do think it's the warmth even more than the spectrum light, because this was before I was even using a light. (My windows are large, south and west facing )

But I digress , (and besides I am rambling)

I checked out the Bordelon and the Tanee. Both are beautiful. And now I am *dying* for a varigated Tanee, thanks alot LOL. They are quite expensive from what I seeing !?? Or am I just looking in the wrong places.

I do want to get a Zebrina --but hope to experiment with edible fruit varieties.

Crazily enough, I want to attempt the Blue Java/ Icecream. It figures I would be drawn to the one that is hard to get the real deal of! :ha:

I will have to dig out my old phone to find some fun pics of a hibiscus I used to have that practically touched my ceiling, blooming happily over winter while it did it! No grow lights required, just a southern patio window!

Also a potted gardenia "tree shrub" that bloomed all winter and spring.

Both would be outside in summer, then brought inside from the cold.

I sacrificed both, among some other plants, a few years back due to a really nasty outdoor summertime/fall spider mite infestation. I just couldn't kick them, and didn't want to risk my large indoor tropicals getting infected. The thought of trying to get rid of them off an 8 foot tall indoor Dracanea Fragrans was the deal breaker! Yikes.

This year I have a Mandevilla blooming all winter. Pics on my current phone. Will have to upload . It had a bit of a fit and dropped alot of leaves in Nov, but then quickly recovered, new leaves+flowers in December and has been blooming ever since . Again South window.

Grand Duke of Tuscany Jasmine loves the full spectrum light.Nothing special, just an inexpensive photography light. Whenever it gets spoiled with it it puts out alot blooms. I definitly reccomend this as an easy winter bloomer :)

I wonder what other flowering winter surprises I will find on my old phone, because I used to bring alot of stuff in just to see what I could keep blooming,(or even just alive LOL) and was surprised at what thrived :birthdaynana:
