Hi there :bananas_b

I purchased a Dwarf Banana early last month from one of those "big box nurseries."

On their website where I ordered it from it was labled "Super Dwarf Cavendish".

However I noticed SDC all seem to have dark markings on their leaves. My pup does not. I am wondering if it's actually a Dwarf Cavendish, or is it possible for SDC to not have the marks, depending on light conditions or nutrient factors?

The nursery in question seems like the type to make such mistakes...For instance they did not ship it very well..It arrived with all but one leaf bent or broken. Of course it's grown like a weed since then. It is almost hard to believe what I have now is the same small beat up plant I recieved not that long ago! It is no exxageration when these guys are happy they GROW LIKE A WEED :ha: Maybe the phrase needs to be re-coined "Grows fast like a Banana plant!"

I have included two photos in my gallery:

Thank you for any answers :)

I think it's kinda too early to tell...... Maybe other members have a different opinion:nanadrink:

They do show/not show wine marks based on sunlight and other growth conditions. Looking at my pups in the greenhouse not a 1 had a wine mark. But if I TC them or macropropagate them they show wine marks like crazy! In my opinion yours showing no marks is the sign of a good healthy “sword” pup. A more wide leafed pup or after it’s off the mom usually shows more markings. I’ve just observed all this. Never really tried to understand why. It is interesting though.

You 100% have a super dwarf cavendish.

Looks exactly like the "poquitos" I carry.
sSome form of Dcav, or "something".
Funny think with Big Box stores, They label just about anything super small as SDC.

Typically an ornamental though.
When summer hits it should start showing the wine stain variegation, if it's going to do it.

Thank you everyone for your replies :nanadrink:

TyTaylor77, That is is all very interesting, and nice to know I've got the healthier version :)

Sddarkman619, I wouldn't doubt it re the boxstores and their careless labeling.

I see both of you are sellers with alot to choose from, and as I've been bitten by the Banana bug, I'm sure the Dwarf is going to end up with friends in the near future. :ha:
