Ive been growing bananas for three years. I don't know what they are. Could you please tell me what they are and if they'll bloom, and if you know how long it will take for them to bloom.

That yellow pseudostem rings of Musa balbisiana, but it could be a few different types. Where the leaf meet the petiole looks recurved, so it could be balbisiana. Where did you get it?

A friend gave them to me.
If it ends up to be a balbisiana
I will send you a pup in the fall.
That's if you want one, you just
have to pay for shipping.
And there is another catch, you
have to remind me .I am so busy I
forget things.and thank you for your
help. Paula:416:

Paula, not quite sure, but it looks like you might be getting a flag leaf on the center one right now. If that's the case, it should bloom in a matter of days! It is a gorgeous banana and I would like to get in line for a pup, too. Let me know if she blooms by posting some pic's.
Good luck!!!

mind so you will have to remind me
in the fall scot . And thank you.

Paula, It's very hard to tell without a flower. Yes it will bloom, they all do. In your area it usually does on it's third year. 6 months of grow time for three years = 18 months total grow time(Average bloom time). Once it flowers it should be easy to identify. Good luck.

I don't see any sign of a flag leaf anywhere. I'd say you'll have to wait for bloom and then it'll be easier to help ID.

Hi Paula, I don't have any answers for you, myself being a greenie at growing banans but I just wanted to say your trees are lovely! :woohoonaner: I can only hope mine looks that good next seaon.
Since y'all are trying to figure out what variety of tree Paula might have, I have a question for ya.
I have a musa basjoo (the tag says) and from looking at some of the pictures I have seen of this tree they look all green. Two of my pups have reddish splotches/patterns on their leaves. Is this the characteristic for young basjoos. Is this normal? or did I get duped and buy another variety that may not survive my winter? Anyone out there know? Thanx for any info on this. :)

Thanks, busy bee.
I just hope I get a bloom soon.
Or it won't have time to ripen
before winter.

Guess I need new glasses, now I can see that it was just an unfurled lobe of the new leaf. Hope it blooms soon.
Best of luck.

I don't see the leaf bases as being lobed, so I am thinking acuminata. Was there any red on the leaves when it was smaller? I also see red in the midrib of the leaf.
