He thought he recalled it being a numbered variety so maybe fhia something?
Ladder in pic is just over 7ft from feet to tip and i have long fingers
This variety also pups prolifically and I have a few in pots and planted on my property now also.

Also appears to be Namwah, why do you think it is not?

smaller diameter base, thinner bunch and smaller flower compared to the last thread I posted. Also today I noticed that after the bananas the male flowers fell off the MJ5 patch you id'd last thread and on this bunch they stayed on (you call it a dirty something i've seen)

All these patches are in the same area about 10 ft. apart from one another so I just numbered them from right to left MJ1,MJ2 and so on... sooner or later he said he'd get me the list of what everything he bought back in the day was sold to him as.

I'll try to get a better zoomed out pic of the flower on each to show the difference i thought I saw (MJ5 flower is probably 5" wide and MJ3 flower is small like 3" wide)

It’s for sure Pisang Awak (namwa)

A lot of times I notice differences on mine. Due to the amount of pups/competition, area planted, or lots of other factors. Could also be a slight off type from the TC process. Keep growing and comparing! It’s fun and educational.

There are a few different Namwah/Pisang Awak available even in Florida, and one of them that I've seen and grown looks a bit like this one. It has semi-persistent male flowers below the bunch, and the fruits don't fill out very well. It could be an off-type or just a different clone from a separate introduction, but in any case I couldn't think of any good reason to maintain it as I have 3 other Pisang Awak cultivars that I like, so I got rid of it, but I probably have some photos somewhere.

My namwas have a purple band on the base of immature fingers - assuming mine are namwas.
I don't see any bands on these

Thank you all!! any yes, the "mj5" namwah patch seems to be slightly bigger and bigger bunch producer also so that's one i'll probably switch my namwah patch to also.

the "mj5" patch namwah has the very noticeable bands also.. these have them but not as pronounced and lighting was overcast in these pics so contrast of colors is less

I'll post update pics as they fill out and ripen in my id threads i have started

Another observation from my nana mats - the namwas (tall and dwarf) drop the male flowers leaving a skinny rat tail. Other varieties (seem to be cavendish strains) have persistent male flowers - dirty rachis

Here is the one I was talking about that is probably same as yours. This was from Fairchild gardens years ago, but I've also grown it in Hawaii. It's a Namwah/Pisang Awak, but with some amount of persistent flowers below the bunch, and tapered fruit that don't fill out well. Could also be a similar, but different tissue culture off-type that has undergone the same basic mutation.

Honestly I would just get rid of it and replace with something else, was never a very productive plant, not as good as the other Namwahs.

you are probably spot on gabe.. I can see the quality differences in the 2 mats and racks. These are on a friends property so i'm sure he'll just let them be but i'm going to only use the "mj5" namwah pups from his mat on my property now.
the mj3 adn mj5 racks should be fairly close on ripening out time frame so it will be nice to taste test and compare them when they do.
thanks!
