I really want to micropropagate bananas. The problem is, I don't know anything. I need procedures and proportions of all the nutrients etc. I have contact with a kind person that can give me some Blue Java tissue, but almost nothing else. But honestly, I already made a reddit post you can check here (https://www.reddit.com/r/tissueculture/comments/e7dul7/how_do_you_culture_bananas_from_cells/). Thank you! I wish to become an expert one day! :2748:

All, As Ensete does not pup, I tried the suggested method of chopping off at the "corm", cutting out the central core and planting (about a month ago). Today saw first new plants! From what I have read I can get as many as 50 plants from one corm. The ones I used were small, but it looks like i will get 5 or more.
QUESTION: As Ensete is same family as Musa, will this work on regular bananas? If so, looks like a very easy way to propagate lots and lots.

Welcome to the banana gang!.....:2723::bananarow::2723:

It will work in regular Nana Varieties too!....There is a ton of info, threads/posts of Tissue Culturing and micropropagation in the Tissue Culturing & Other Propagation Techniques Of Banana Plants Section in the forum.....

I am far from a TC expert and only do it as a hobby. But the first thing you need is a laminar flow hood!! If not you can expect a lot of losses! The worst thing is watching your plants grow for 8 months then killing over half on the last sub-culture. But email me through my site and I can email you some .pdf files on banana TC protocols and the MS salts and mixtures. You could find quite a bit searching the web also.

Good luck! It can be very fun but also very aggravating! Lol

Ty speaks of what I would call "real" TC - taking a few cells and growing them in a special culture, sterilized, etc. etc. Need to be careful and clean. What I am doing is simple and dirty and quick and produces masses of plants. Just chop the corm into 2 to 4 pieces and see the new plantlets pop up. BUT MY QUESTION is when to transplant and how to get them to have roots, or if they do not have roots, what to do? Rooting hormone?? or ???
I have lots of ensete from 1" to 8 inches tall. I fear the 8" re getting too big, and I do not see roots, (maybe I planted the corm too shallowly - did it more or less at soil level).
Someone on this forum had pictures of a musa they were working with and I would guess the issues are the same.
Have been unable to find the pictures and person who posted. :-(
Any help would be more than appreciated@!!

I have searched under tissue and tissue culture as what I think Helen suggested but can't find anything. . .
