It's finally happening! I've been growing bananas for around 10 years now, knowing that it would be a challenge to get a flower, but the hard work is paying off.

I purchased this Dwarf Orinoco about 6 years ago at a farmer's market in Winnipeg, Manitoba of all places, and packed it in my suitcase for the flight to Ottawa. This mother plant has suffered over the last couple years, actually shrinking down to about 3 feet tall, while the 2 pups are quite large. I was expecting them to fruit first, actually! I'm not expecting a huge blossom or bushels of bananas, but just the fact that it's blooming is enough for me!

They are currently in my plant room in the basement with a bunch of LEDs. Trying to keep the spider mites at bay!

I've currently got the dwarf orinocos, musa basjoo, dwarf cavendish, musa "truly tiny," and ensete maurelli.

My first thought was "what's the big deal about a flower?" until I saw "Ottawa, Ontario". That IS a big deal. Congratulations !!!
