Hi all,
I registered here some years ago I think, when I first planted my babies in the back yard - four young Dwarf Cavendish (I live in New Orleans). Most of the banana plants here are Orinoco but I wanted the sweet yellow store style bananas! That was in late summer 2015.
Well the first winter (2015-2016) they froze.
Then the next winter (2016-2017) they froze again.
Then the THIRD winter (2017-2018) we had ACTUAL SNOW so obviously they froze. I was getting pretty grumpy by now with my bananas trees that were always so pretty but never got to banana stage.
Last winter they DID NOT FREEZE! So this spring I began waiting excitedly for them to make bananas and around February I got to see my first flag leaf... then another in March... then soon another. We had a dry spring then and the rain came back in July and now they are still popping up all over the place (they have spread quite a bit). It took several months for them to ripen and the crop began to come in 6 weeks ago and we are on our third bunch now. I just went out and saw a banana blossom about a foot long.
So my question right now is... what do you do with 500 bananas? Haha no really :08:
