I have grow all kinds of things outside its natural environment/climate. I live in Ventura County, Ca, zone 9B. I want to embark on the banana growing party. Is there a thread/s here for complete banana noobs?
I live in a condo, face the west, summers get hot here, 110 plus, have a balcony, and would be growing them in containers.
Is there a best variety I should be looking for? I am currently looking at the Nam wah that I found on the bananatreesforsale website. I am trying to figure out container size, correct medium, and maintenance.
I am a very dedicated grower. I germinate most of my stuff. I have grown key lime, pitaya, papaya, tangerine, passion fruit, pineapple, etc... on the east end of Long Island. I would like to take advantage of the nice weather and long growing season here and bananas are a definite goal of mine.
Any advice or pointing me in the right direction of threads that cover the basics are appreciated in advance.
