Greetings all. With Hurricane Dorian coming in, I'm hoping for the least impact possible but also preparing for the worst. As far as banana plants are concerned, is there anything I can do to prevent any damage or will severe hurricane wind impact essentially guarantee plant loss?
I currently have three flag leaves out and want to do anything possible to prevent loss. What about cutting the leaves to minimize sway in the wind? Any advice is appreciated.

If the plant blows over it can be sat back up-right if done soon after the storm clears the area and the ground is still soggy.
It could be a good idea to soak the ground & dig one side of the plants that flowered to lay them on the ground until after the storm. You could then easily cover it with a weighted tarp. ... just a though here ... I haven't done this ... but have sat several plants back up after being blown over. 3 of those have flowered this year after last year's storm.

If it has a bloom on it and it gets blown over you can replant it?

I haven't done that when the stalk had a bloom but it should be OK. ... The pstem isn't dead. As I said, 3 pstems have bunches growing now that were blown over by last years storm.

If a pstem gets blown over just stand it back up and tie 3 ropes to it with stakes --- 120 degrees apart. It should have roots enough attached to keep it growing. Trim off dead leaves for looks and you'll feel better.
I have a SH3640 with a huge bunch all filled in. I just lifted it up and propped it on a sawhorse. Bunch should show some yellow soon. Then the harvest and hang indoors.
