Hi all I've had my blue java for a couple months and it was growing fine when I added some osmocote and it really started to take off. Recently the leaves have started breaking in half before they fully get out. The last 3 leaves have done this. Any advice? I'm in Houston where it is really hot and I water it every day in the morning. Thanks so much for any help.

Awesome looking healthy plant.
My guess is a critter is launching off the fence to your plant and breaking the tender leaves.
My other guess is exactly what you had said.

Any cats around? I have one that loves to climb the nanas. .... How much shading does the plant get during the heat of the day (mid afternoon to sun down)? ... The leaves and the mid ribs looks a little droopy which I suspect is due to heat. Then the wind is causing the leaves to break. Misting in the afternoon will help and cool the plant.

It gets some shading but not a lot. The backyard is setup to get morning sun on the corner it is in and then slowly go away over the afternoon. I don't think a cat is climbing it because the last leaf that broke happened when it was in the middle of the yard.

Must be the heat then so I'll try to mist it everyday in the afternoon too.

Thanks for your help.

An air pot might be into play.....

Where are you located? I take it you are in a Northern area (zone 8 or lower) since you have a medium size Blue Java in a pot. Plants in pots have their own rules/protocols vs. plants in field/yard.

I personally think misting is a waste of time and money for field plants other than in situations where humidiity is close to zero such as Arizona or Nevada. Better to provide adequate water to the root zone.
