Hello All - I have been fortunate enough to have 3 (maybe 5 but that is a different discussion) Helen's hybrids germinate in the last few weeks...quite pleased.

The oldest (about 4 weeks now) one's growth has slowed down quite a bit and isn't looking so hot. I am guessing it has likely been over watered and is now suffering from that....I have reason to believe it was likely given too much water.

I noticed a bit of algae growing on the medium I used (sterile Promix seed starting mix) which might be another indicator of wetness.

As you can see from the pics below the pot is appropriately sized (I think) for a seedling transplant, and that is in a standard size tray with a very tall incubator cover over it with several holes in the upper section which support the fluorescent grow light tube (inside the the cover).....not very humid inside the whole contraption. Above that and outside the plastic is another fluorescent light.

I did fertilize it lightly with a very dilute, balanced fertilizer after the 2nd leaf came out.

Wondering if anyone might have any input on how I should proceed with it at this point. This is my 2nd attempt at germinating bananas, first unsuccessful, and I would hate to kill it now.

Thank you very much for any input and, of course, for all the fantastic information on this site.http://www.bananas.org/gallery/watermark.php?file=64917 (http://www.bananas.org/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=64916&ppuser=18984)http://www.bananas.org/gallery/watermark.php?file=64915&size=1 (http://www.bananas.org/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=64915&ppuser=18984)http://www.bananas.org/gallery/watermark.php?file=64916[/IMG][/IMG]

Looks about right..scratch the soil a bit to dry out.

I would put them in a larger (3-4 inch) well drained pot, without disturbing the roots any more then possible.

Done, thank you.

Done, thank you. When would you generally pot up the young shoots in the picture? Would you wait until their roots fill the smaller container or sooner?

Either or, when they seem to stall give them more dirt. If they have any roots they will grow.
