I was able to get a basjoo pup from a local grower. Their plants always get to about 14' tall in a season.
Mine always peaked out at half that height - even my second year corms. Let's see if I originally had a smaller basjoo variety or maybe I don't feed my plants enough whole milk and whey protein to grow tall in a season. Time will tell.

Yeah, you gotta give them juice, put them on the bicycle when the season is short.

Aside from feeding and watering, I've found mine get taller in a season when they have a developed root system (second year or more in the ground) and the stem isn't killed down to the ground or slightly below the ground. This past winter was mild here and I had put some garbage bags full of leaves around the stems. I had live tissue knee high or so from last year when they started growing this spring. This year I had the tallest basjoos I've had in 10 years.

Yes, mine act the same. Second year plants always do well for me and the pups come up faster and stronger. My basjoo did ok this year, I didn't push it hard since it was establishing roots but I will protect it overwinter and hope that it makes it till next year!
