it seems to me that my basjoos are getting taller, but my dwarfs arent. they keep sending out new leaves but they are still short. i know they are dwarfs, but they are suppossed to get up to 7-8 ft. does the p-stem on dwarfs always seem to grow slower then the regular sized nanas? or is it a genetic thing?:bananarow::bananarow::bananarow:

My D.Orinoco's started out tissue culture pups and are putting out bigger and bigger leaves but both are still short. I was just sitting out there this morning staring at them trying to figure out if they'd make it to 5 feet by the end of summer and was thinking that if I don't cut the pstem down when I winter them, they'd get to full height next year? Do you think that is reasonable expectation? If so.... maybe that is what is going on with yours?
When someone that knows what they're talking about answers then I'll know if somethings wrong with mine too!
Deb :o)
Oh sorry Pauly.. you did give an answer to this... duhhhh.... my brain isn't funtioning up to par today.

Now think about it, if they grew as fast as a non-dwarf, they wouldn't be dwarfs anymore!LOL...But you know, I'd really like to find one that rapidly grows to five feet and then just stalls out there...only in my dreams I'm afraid!
Sounds like you're getting good growth, glad to hear your plants are doing so well.

Deb,
I'd definitely save as much of the heigth on the pstems as possible as this is one of the keys to getting bloom the following year. If you cut them way back, the plant essentially has to start all over again. I assume you are planning to overwinter in the house or a greenhouse?

Thanks, yes in the house. Turning a spare bedroom into the plant room. BTW I have two pups on the bronze laterita I got from you and the top of the pstem is turning a redish color and don't know if it's going to have a blossom or if it's choking!

If you're seeing red coloration, that's usually an indication that it's getting ready to bloom! Was the last leaf it pushed out smaller? If so, that was the flag, and what you're seeing now is the bud getting ready to emerge. Keep us posted!
