Looking for a possible ID on this banana tree. Pictured is from the original owner as to the size of the tree and then a closer look at the leaf. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks. Red

That has to be a basjoo (or could it be Sikkimensis?) Others here - how to tell the two apart? -

The first pic (with the pool) is from the person I got the plants from. He said they grow about 17' tall which makes me happy. They are also cold hardy for my area just outside Charlotte NC. The base where he cut them back last year is a good 8" in diameter. I hope someone is able to give me a positive ID. Thanks.

This is almost certainly a Musa basjoo - a superb example. No edible fruit, attractive flower. It clearly has a large mat (many stems and pups). If you happen to need to keep it in check and dig any, would most appreciate a pup as I believe there are different genetics working in these and have been collecting from numerous sources to further this research.
Many thanks,

Thank you. I will go with Musa basjoo. I hope it grows like it did for the original owner. I will keep you in mind if it pups like I'm hoping. Thanks for the ID help.
