Last year when we were visiting our friend Robert, he told me of a banana called the 'vinegar banana'. I had never hear of it, but he said people made vinegar from it. I was intrigued and he had me me try a very ripe one. It was sour and did almost have a vinegar type flavor.

Is there another name for this banana?

Robert worked for the United Fruit Company in Costa Rica until they left Golfito in the the 1980's. He has the amazing Paradise Tropical Garden now. He is quite the Banana Industry historian.

The pics are screen shots from a video, so please excuse the quality.
Thanks

There isn't enough information in those photos to make an educated guess unfortunately, we would need to see more of the plant. It doesn't have any strikingly unique traits from those photos, and as well the trait of having a tart/sour type flavor is common among many different types of bananas.

Thanks for the reply.

I'll have an opportunity to visit those bananas next week and I'll give a more thorough report when I get the chance.
