I tried to grow a banana (unknown variety, got it from someone local) about 15 years ago. That didn't go so well, the daily sundowner winds slowly killed it. In the meantime my home orchard has grown to over 70 trees, about half citrus, half stone. I grafted almost all the citrus from carefully selected varieties obtained from the CCPP (citrus clonal protection program).

I'm giving bananas a second try. I'll need dwarf varieties so I can put them in wind-protected spots. Cold is a factor too: typ. lows are anywhere from 27F-32F, but I have the feeling the wind is the bigger issue.

I mail-ordered three tiny plants: cal gold, goldfinger, and dwarf namwah, but after reading many stories on this forum I'm going to start over 'cause the source is apparently questionable. I have no interest in spending 3 years to find out that what I got isn't what I wanted... I'm now trying to locate, from a reputable source, goldfinger, dwarf namwah, dwarf brazilian, and dwarf orinoco (or cal gold). I'm open to other suggestions...:08:

Welcome to the Jungle.....:woohoonaner:

There are a few form members who are in the biz to sell accurate plants.
You can get your plants here.
Do a post in the plants wanted thread.

Hopefully they will contact you.

Good luck and have fun growing:)
