Hey folks glad to join the neighborhood. I am in the Houston area zone 9a. I've always had banana plants however I've always been ignorant to a majority of the information that would have made me even more successful. Considering my passion for growing things I'm surprised I didn't get into them sooner. Currently I've got this 6x4 bed built that has some great bed mix and leaf mold compost. I bought from a well known nursery in the area for having unique things and this was labeled Ice Cream. So who knows. This bed has been planted almost a year and up until the other day I was ignorant to the types of suckers so I am not sure if it is to late to cull out the water ones or not or which ones at this point. I've got lots of questions and I am looking forward to learning and getting to know some of the fine folks here.

Right on, just from browsing I'm finding out pictures aren't the easiest to upload at least from a phone. Gimme some time and I'll get the hang of it. Any specific lingo that's good to know i.e. mats, choking.

Welcome! I'm just a little south of you in League City. I had a similar experience - ordered a couple "Ice Cream" bananas from an online nursery that turned out to be Gran Nains, then got a couple of confirmed "real deal" Blue Javas from hdynad a couple months later.

I've got family in Huntington right by Lufkin did you take much damage?. Weather sure is a test of ones nerve there. I'd love to visit your awesome farm someday. Also when are your sales going live?

Right on, yeah I'd probably like to get one or two more varieties, I live in new home builds so yards aren't huge and I've already got most of the space taken up. What would your top three be?

My dwarf Brazilians have been growing like crazy and seem very sturdy. The “real deal” Blue Javas are also doing well. I lost 1 Gran Nain over the winter and another is very shrimpy -
I think I want to replace them with a dwarf namwa and a dwarf red.

Wow small world! YES! So much damage! Lost 20+ hardwood trees down and one shed. We live East of San Augustine on the lake. One just demolished San Augustine and the other one started just at our house and went 38 miles into LA. Our greenhouse is fine! Amazing! It did stretch the plastic some. A tree smashed our car! Totaled it! It pulled up 15’+ of roots on the hickory tree! At the local weather station 2 miles north they clicked max winds of 108mph! Thankfully we are all ok but wow what a mess.
We will start selling on the site and overall in about 2 weeks. We are finishing a construction first. If I start selling and shipping before it is complete I will never finish it! Lmao.
