Hey guys, so I have a recently acquired a Ney Mannan subgroup banana - Pisang Abu Perak. Does anyone know if Blue java is separate or a part of this subgroup, and if so, is it synonymous with Pisang Abu Perak, or a separate accession? Or is it a general term to refer to anything within the Ney Mannan subgroup? The blue java's I've seen look pretty blue and fat and blocky like an orinoco, not really much like the TARS catalog pictures of Pisang Abu Perak.

Also, is anyone else growing Pisang Abu Perak, and how do you like it so far?

Thanks,
Andrew

I have both. Not sure if they share the same group but they are different. Haven't got to taste pisang abu perak yet but hope next year.

Hey Bryce, thanks for your input. Please do post a report when you get to compare the plants at maturity with fruit.

Apparently, according to this website,
M.M.P.N.D. - Sorting Musa cultivated varieties (cultivars) names (http://www.plantnames.unimelb.edu.au/Sorting/Musa-cvs.html)
Pisang Abu Perak could be synonymous with Silver Bluggoe, which is seperate from the ney mannan group. However, the TARS catalogue has it listed as a Ney Mannan group interestingly enough.
