Trying to identify a banana that just opened. It is in my gallery. I have tried in vain to load the pics on this thread and finally gave up. Any help identifying the banana would be very much appreciated.

Hmm. Interesting. I have two known Orinoco banana plants and although they have not produced yet the plants don't look anything like this one. Time will tell. Thanks for the info.

Orinoco / burro has several forms. Tall, medium, and dwarf. I discovered and collected 7 different forms from all over Florida. The flowers and fruit are the main sign but also long petioles with closed petiole channels. Dwarf has a shorter petiole but still closed.

This one is about ten feet tall, it has a very large base. The other two I have are much different. Relatively thin base, growing much slower, only about 7 feet tall right now, and they were in the ground months before the other one. I was told by the nursery I bought them from that they were Orinoco's. They have not produced so I have little to go on. Someone in another thread once said that misidentification is a very big problem, even by nurseries. I know that one of the blue Javas that I bought is definitely not a blue java. My previous one was and I have pups from that one. I got this one from a woman who grows them from tissue cultures (not sure where she gets them from) I just got a stalk from that plant. Fully ripe and tart with a firm texture. Very fast growing plant probably 15 feet tall, but not a Blue Java.

Yea it’s a Musa tall Orinoco. Very common banana. I like the true dwarfs a lot better. In your area there is so many better choices.

Congrats on the bunch.

Your pics may be too large to load. I think they need to be 2MB or smaller.
