Anyone have a giant banana to show off? And no, that is NOT a euphemism for something. :ha: I've heard of the Mekong giant and I am intrigued. Does anybody have one that they have grown?

Just started growing the Mekong. Plant is only 1 1/2 feet tall. I expect big things from this one.

I am not sure where it is but somewhere on this site I remember some pics of a 20+ footer grown in shrimp shells as fertilizer. The PS on it was like a garbage can in thickness...

Steven,

You talking about awesome guy Chris (forum member Rmplmnz) from Tampa, Florida epic Saba pictures!....

A quote from Rmplmnz (Chris)!......

"That banana patch was epic....I prepped the soil with 1,000 pounds of shrimp shells I got (for free) from a local shrimp processing plant (fights nematodes) and a 1,000 pounds of horse poo (for free from a local stable)..and then the rains came....8 hurricanes in 4 years...

The pseudostems were over five feet in circumference....

I later planted a Red Iholene in the same area that grew over 20 feet...Don & Katie Chafin, Going Bananas still have pictures I gave them that they display in a little book at plant shows/sales..."
