Default Need Help With Mulch

I Know Most Plants Do Not Like Mulch Up Against Their Trunks. Am I Right That It Is Acceptable For Banana Plants? Also That A Banana Plant Can Be Planted Deeper Than Original Depth Say Like Tomato Plants.

THANKS, TONY

i dont mulch mine up to the stem. i leave about 3 inches away from the stem when i mulch. just water before you mulch and water after you mulch, that way the ground wont heat up and cook the roots.

A study a few years ago showed that the bunch weight increases and time to flowering decreases the deeper you plant, up to about 60cm. This may make it more difficult to separate and manage pups, but thats your choice. Planting deep will also likely increase cold hardiness, not that it gets that cold where you are, but for other members it may be something to try.

Planting Depth for improved growing

I mulch mine right up to the base with no apparent problems. It seems OK with bananas, but it is not adviseable for plants with woody stems such as trees, citrus, etc as it can cause a whole host of problems.
