My daughter gave me a Banana plant and I don't want to kill it. I love green plants but my thumb is brown. Help. My house does not face the sun so the plant will not get a lot of direct light. also my house is very cold in the winter. Should I get a plant light. Should I feed it. It is September and the weather has not gotten cold yet. But the leaves are brown and there is new leaves coming in but there are some dying ones also.

Where are you located?

Do you know if it is a fruiting or ornamental type?

Welcome to the banana Bunch. ... It would help to know where you are located and to see a picture of the plant.

First, potted banana plants inside need water about every 10 to 14 days and only when the top 2" of the pot is dry. The potting soil must be very fast draining. ... Next tropical plants like bananas in the dry humidity of a house need misting 2 or 3 Xs a day. ... This is the basics, you will figure out the rest as you go; however, almost every one kills their first banana plant so don't feel bad if yours don't make it.
