Hi, guys, first post. Nice to see a website just devoted to banana growing.
Anyway, I grow just about everything I can and was recently gifted a few small banana plants from a neighbor who is moving. I live in the Sacramento area of California and didn't know you could grow bananas here. Apparently you can!
Don't ask what variety they are, I don't know. He said he would put them inside over the winter, or the main plant would usually die, but still put out shoots in the summer.
So I'm wondering if there's a basic guide to growing bananas in cold climates? I realize I can learn a lot of strategies from reading posts but I was wondering if there was some general info I should read up on. So far I've noticed that they don't like direct sun, like any baby plant. I have they under a tree canopy with some filtered sunlight before I decide what to do with them.
