I planted a few small namwa pups in mid October last year at my Mother's house here in Pensacola. The plants died back to the ground but came back up early Spring. No winterization, no winter care, nothing.

What about TC vs pups?

My experience is only with pups.

hard to answer that question, since the weather isn't always the same from one year to the next. The growth rate of a plant isn't always the same either, depends on the grower, genetics, environment, and weather. Essentially, you want to have a fully established, hardened off plant with a decent sized corm so that in case a deep frost hits, the plant can come back from the corm.

Thank you... How long does it take to get a decent sized corn... The plants were nice sized but had very little below ground. Order them from a widely know internet provider.

I try not to plant anything in the ground between 10/1 and 2/15. I am in 10b. In pots, I've planted year round, but you have to be able to protect them.

TCs need special care for the first 3 or four months and are very difficult for most growers. Nurseries that sell these usually do not given complete or proper instruction for growing and hardening off these plants just to get they to the size of a 18" / 2 ft pup.

Pups still need some care, but not as much.

I'm with the other fellas.
If your corm is fist sized you have a chance.
Use caution.

Your plant has to have a good established root system if it to survive the cooler months

What type of plants did you pick up and from which seller?

I may have made a rookie mistake. I order plants on line.
I order Ca Gold and Ice Cream from Green Earth.
I am putting these in at a beach house we own. We get there about four times a year. So it is put in the ground and hope for the best

Unfortunately they will send you some other types of banana plants.

So I have heard... time will tell.
Come spring time I am planning to get some pups from a more dependable source.
