I am a complete newbie and have been searchig countless sites for some information on growing the gran nain.

Can anyone tell me if it is best to plant a new plant in a small pot and transplant as needed or if I could plant in a large planter and it will grow into it's home over time (I know with some plants the roots could take over the pot and hinder the growth if you do that). Also, if you recommend the latter, how large a planter would you recommend?

I live in CT and will be keeping it outside for the warmer months then storing inside for the winter.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I really want my little guy to thrive.

How large is your plant now? Even if it is small you can plant it into a large pot if ou are careful about how much you water it. Give us an idea of how tall it is now, how many leaves it has, etc, and we can better advise you. Welcome to the society, by the way.

I prefer to start mine in a small pot and work up. This way I can control the dampness of my soil. Nana's can grow surprisingly well in a small pot though. My buddy puts his pups in one gallon pots and they can get 5-6 ft by the end of the season. Granted they will dry out fast, but grow fine. As long as its hot you can plant them in whatever. When it's cool I prefer small pot, they dry out faster and don't stay soggy. How big is you nana? Also, your Q was about growing the Gran Nain (Chiquita). I think you will find most nana's need the same care with only a few exceptions.

Excellent points and thank you so much for responding back.

My plant is about 6 inches tall and has 8 leaves. I have it in a 10-15 gallon pot right now but may put it in a 3.5 gallon pot the I have in the garage based on your recommendations.

Thank you again!!!!!

10-15 seems VERY large to me. I would go to a smaller size. look at this one I grew in a 3 gallon pot. It was 7' by fall!

That's a SDC Pete. She was a butte. Glad to help Buckles. FYI. Next time I'll use a lil bigger pot. I almost had to break the pot to get it out!
