I've never attempted growing mango since I am in zone 7a - that's why I've opted for growing Pawpaws (Asimina triloba) since they are cold hardy, disease and pest resistant and can produce heavily with little to no fertilizer/chemicals.

I love mangoes! I wish I could grow some - I saved a seed and was going to grow one in a pot but I don't have as much room and it gets too cold here for it to ever fruit I would say.

Here is a website that sells cold-hardy mango. It says 9-11 zone but since you're 8b maybe you could create a micro climate if you plant it on the south facing side of a brick wall or house and provide shelter and rocks and stuff to keep it warmer. Good luck!
