Hi - This is a belated introduction. I live in S W England (N Devon) near the sea. We avoid most of the very hot weather, and have kept below about 27C during the recent heat wave (they've been up to 35C further east). In the winter it can get down to -8C but I have managed to overwinter M basjoo, M sikkimensis, M Helen's hybrid, M itinerans, and Musella (Ensete) lasiocarpa outside. Helen's hybrid and itinerans I gave some protection. All the rest, including a large basjoo) were cut down to ground level in some exceptionally cold early spring weather (-6C coupled with a strong wind). I brought M balbisiana in for the winter (dried it out and kept in a cool bedroom) and E maurellii - gorgeous plant - dried out and kept in an unheated conservatory which got well below freezing, but was protected form the wind. Not sure how I can insert an image here from a file on my computer.

Thanks, Darla. I wish I lived in a climate where I could grow bananas outside all the year round. Impressed by your collection :)

Welcome aboard the Banana Express. :nanerwaveytrain:

I have a great friend who is a retired constable over in Blackpool. Not too terribly far away.
