Hello All,

I'm looking for some help. First, I thought I purchased and Ice Cream Banana (I know I'm not the first to think that) but was recently told maybe not. Anyway, I am posting pics of the flower (plant flowered inside and then was moved outside), the plant and the bunch.

Is it an Ice Cream Banana or something else?
When will the bananas be ready?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Sandy

Looks like tall musa orinoco to me.

My vote is etoliated namwah. Orinoco tall at least none of mine make tight fitting fruits like that and rarely have that many fruits. Petioles are long on the tall part but too short on the shorter ones IMO to resemble any of my orinoco talls.

Given the appearance and what you bought it as, I'm with Bryce, it is almost certainly a tall Namwah.

Many plant retailers source their plants from plant distributors, who in turn buy from horticultural wholesale nurseries. There are of course retailers who buy directly from wholesale nurseries.
Most retailers use common names provided by their suppliers, but on occasion some falsely use names of plants in high demand.
With bananas as with some other plants of desire, many common names in different languages have emerged for the same plant.
And so it has occurred (not just with Ice Cream) that a wholesale grower chose a name for a plant that already existed as a synonym for another plant.

The rest of the story about Ice Cream is here:

I’m sorry Sandy! I totally agree. It does look like a tall namwa.

That's a nice looking bunch no matter the type of banana or grow zone but for Pennsylvania that's crazy! Congratulations!
