Noticed the last few new sets of leaves are coming out with brown markings. Is this a watering or feeding issue?31433144
Thank you in advance!

Could be either or both or even an insect.
These plants will exhibit all kinds of looks when overwatered or over fertilized.
Your plant is a beast and should grow through it.
Do you have it planted in the ground or is it in a container?

Thanks for responding.
In the ground.
Happening to all 3 of my muses. My blue java exhibits no such symptoms and they’re all more or less in the same general are. All get the same water and feeding but the Java definitely has more native soil. I’ve watered all more lately as the top soil has been dry and it’s been insanely hot.

I had something similar a while ago but it turned out all right. As long as the brown part doesn't reach into the stem, I would not worry too much. Topic: http://www.bananas.org/f310/cigar-leaf-browning-47942.html

Just an observation.
The plant at that size and growth habit, color, leaf shape does not appear to be a basjoo.
But it could be a look I have never seen before with my plants.
I could be wrong.
I have some comparison photos in my gallery.
Either way....great looking plant!

So not only is this still happening...but I also noticed around the same time...and has continued to today...all my plants have stopped transpiring.
Is this normal? They used to be wet every morning. Now they are bone dry.
We have had excessive heat, but I have watered them often and I constantly check soil moisture with a meter.
Appreciate all the help!!!

Nothing wrong. The brown mark is due to rapid growth. The new growth pushes so fast it doesn’t completely harden off and gets sunburn. Totally normally. Plant looks great!

Thank you!
So could that cause a new leaf to be more vulnerable when exposed to excessive heat? We’ve been at 95+ with tons of triple digits and little humidity for weeks. This new leaf opened up but was noticeably less robust and far thinner.

Is you plant in the ground or in a pot?
Pots heat up pretty quick and could cause some cascading issues.

While the air temp has been 95° + or as much as 105° (???), the direct sunlight on the leaf can be as hight as 130° +.
This why I previously suggested the plants need afternoon shading and misting several times a day to cool the leaves & plant.
Also, as you have noted the top soil is rapidly drying out each day after watering. This is soil-water evaporation. This is a measurement your local Ag weather service reports for your area. Find out what your loss rate is.
In my area soil evaporation loss runs about .25" to.33" per day per sq ft. This is approximately 150 gal/day for a 10ft circle around a plant. ... So some daily watering is not bad when done in a manner to replenish evaporation loss in the top soil and not flood & drowning the plant roots. ... Your evaporation loss due to the higher temps & soil structure would likely be more than this.
Applying a thick layer of mulch or straw will certainly help cool the banana plant roots.
Last summer when my temps were in the high 90° & 100° and drought conditions, my banana plant leaves never dropped because I misted 3 & 4 Xs a day and watered morning & evening keeping the ground around the plants moist. ... I'm not having that problem this summer.

Thank you! Does it matter what time of day you mist? I’ve read sometimes water on the plant during the heat of day is bad...(?)

That is an Old wives tale, if the heat is hot enough for water to scall the plant; then the direct sunlight is hot enough to burn the plant too. .... So if a plant needs water, then it NEEDS water. Water it! When a plant's leaves start drooping this is a indication that it needs water. ... However, a Banana plants will shut down and droop when temps are above 100° (more like 110 to 120°); even tho it has water.
Several members on this forum has sprinklers and overhead misting system in their nana patch. I just use a spray nozzle on the end of my garden hose. Just spray above the plant (14 ft +) and let the water fall back on the plant like rain. Morning; late morning; mid afternoon; and evening.for misting. ... I've just misted my small nana patch for the second time today and I've had 7" of rain this month.
