My wife started with a single, small plant gifted to her by her mother, and she grew that into several thriving colonies all throughout our old yard. Here was the biggest:

I THINK these are musa tall orinoco plants, but I'd like to confirm that if I can. We have never dug them up before winter, but we do hack them down to about a foot above ground and bury them with dead leaves and bio matter.
On to my question. We have moved to a community where my wife would like to plant some along (or near) the fence line, but I fear that doing so too closely will damage the fence (or encroach on my neighbor's property).
Should I put some kind of root barrier down? If so, how far? Am I safe to plant them without that if I simply back off the fence by several feet?
Any help you experts could offer would be greatly appreciated!
