Hi All,

Glad to find your site! About 10 years ago I was at an Agway store (farm and gardening supplies) and I noticed some adorable little banana plants. I thought they would look great in the planters on my deck(suburbia zone 7A). By summers end the "little" darlings were 6 ft tall. They were too gorgeous to let die so I grabbed a hand truck and hauled them in the house along with all my other prized dessert and tropical plants. By accident of birth and then employment I am stuck in this zone with a short growing season. Fast forward 3 summers and I have 10-foot plants that will not fit 8ft ceilings. I had no choice but to top them off which of course looked awful. Next summer they both fruited! Cutest little bananas! Borrowed some Chiquita stickers for them from my supermarket bananas. I have also been experimenting with some hardy varieties in my garden. Last summer my grove was about 12 feet tall and 15 plants. This year I am devasted as only 6 survived the erratic winter temperatures, super cold spring and the dreaded voles. In the market for a feral cat, wiley fox or hungry hawk.
Happy growing,
Susan

Where in the hell is there an Agway in Zone 7?! That's typically in Yankeeland.

Oh, BTW... welcome aboard the Banana Express. :nanerwaveytrain:
